Yesterday was my father's birthday and today is my mother's. Mine was a few days ago. The fact that we all celebrate within a few days of each other is something I've always taken pride in. Probably because I've always been proud to be their daughter.
My dad is a funny family man, always there with a joke and a smile. He has always put my education and creative endeavors above all else. One time in high school, he took me shoe-shopping last minute to make me feel better because I had to throw together a last minute outfit for a big event, after a sewing project went awry. I want to thank him for always supporting me and my crazy creativity.
But, most of all, I'd like to thank my mom today. She is the kindest person I have ever known and my favorite go-to person when I need to talk. I like to think I inherited my (endearing) quirkiness from her. I definitely inherited her laugh and her penchant for all things French. But most of all, I have to thank her for giving me my creative spirit. She is the one who taught me how to sew. Luckily, my grandmother, another seamstress, lived with us growing up so I had two women to turn to when I had questions or needed assistance with a project.
I cannot remember a time when we weren't creating something: cross-stitching a girl in a tree swing , crafting out of salvaged popsicle sticks in Girl Scouts, 'baking' chocolate chip cookies and really just arguing over who ate more dough. She instilled in me from a young age a desire to create and do for myself and that's something I can never thank her enough for.
My parents have been a huge net of love and support during my crazy journey to start and develop my own eco-friendly clothing line, a journey that's really just begun. For all the times you've both helped me out, assisting me at a sales market, bringing lunch during an all-day sew-a-thon, promoting my business to everyone you can, thanks Mom & Dad and happy birthday to you both!!
